If research projects are in season at your school, you are probably no stranger to helping students and colleagues deal with works cited or bibliography questions. But are you familiar with the latest version of MLA guidelines? Sheila Benedum and Joanna McNally have produced materials that will help with the new Version 7, and the items are available on the INFOhio Web site and in INFOhio's Research Project Calculator.
- INFOhio Citation Brochure, a guide for students, includes tips to cite INFOhio's Core Collection and other print and non-print materials. The two-sided document prints on standard office paper and is designed for folding once before distribution. It is available in MS Word and PDF formats and was prepared by Joanna McNally, Librarian, South Euclid-Lyndhurst City Schools.
- MLA 7.0 Citation Format and INFOhio, a guide for educators. This brief (16 slides) PowerPoint is perfect for staff presentations, one-on-one conferences and everything in between. It reviews many important changes to MLA 7.0 and explains how INFOhio Core Collection resources help students cite specific resources.
- MLA 7.0 Citations: A Getting-Started Guide for Ohio's Students From INFOhio. This PowerPoint helps lower student apprehension about preparing Works Cited and Bibliography pages. It reviews the changes in MLA 7.0 and gives citation examples in most popular formats. Combine the slides with the “INFOhio Citation Brochure” noted above and you have a winning combination! Use the presentation (18 slides) as part of an introduction to the research process or suggest students download it themselves from the INFOhio Web site. Both PowerPoint presentations were produced by Sheila Benedum, Bay Village High School Library Media Specialist.
These new resources are linked from various pages on the INFOhio site, including this year’s Toolkit. All are included in a new section of “Help Using INFOhio's Core Collection of Electronic Resources,” http://www.infohio.org/ER/ERhelp.html . They are also included in the INFOhio Research Calculator, in Step 2’s section about citing resources.
Thanks to Sheila and Joanna for coordinating these useful materials and to Ann Marie Smeraldi, General Education/First Year Experience Librarian, Cleveland State University, for helping prepare them for publication. These colleagues are members of the INFOhio and OhioLINK Special Task Force that is collecting materials and advocating closer coordination for transitioning Ohio students from high school to college.
